Stamio or WorkOutDoors?

WorkOutDoors was my wrist map for months: it's the most configurable app for recording an outing. Stamio starts somewhere else: your training. Both have an offline map on the watch. Here is where they part ways.

What it changes day to day

  1. 01

    It tells you what to run

    A daily workout that accounts for your night and your load, or a full plan up to the marathon.

  2. 02

    Your intervals on the map

    The route, voice turn cues and your interval's pace range, without switching screens.

  3. 03

    Your fitness numbers

    Readiness, HRV, sleep, VO2 max: what no recorder calculates.

Where WorkOutDoors is better, honestly

  • Price: $8.99 once is cheaper than any subscription.
  • Configuration: over 800 fields, endlessly configurable screens.
  • Relief on the map. Stamio will add it after its first version.
  • Years of updates and many more sports.

Choose WorkOutDoors if

  • you want to configure every field on every screen;
  • you want a map with relief right now;
  • you don't need a plan or fitness numbers;
  • you want to pay once and for all.

Choose Stamio if

  • you want to know what to run today, and why;
  • you follow a plan, from 5K to the marathon;
  • you want your workouts guided on the map;
  • you want your fitness numbers in the same app.

Questions

Do my GPX routes move between the two?

Yes. Stamio imports GPX, TCX and FIT files, and exports your workouts as GPX or FIT.

Why a subscription rather than a one-time purchase?

Stamio hosts and updates maps of the whole world, and the app improves every month. Daily metrics, recording and one guided route stay free.
